Fox Valley Initiative (FVI) held its monthly public forum on Monday, July 6, at Freedom Project Academy in Appleton. Laura Ackmann, state ambassador and Winnebago County chapter chairperson of Moms for Liberty (MFL), gave an update on MFL activities and spoke on the topic of “Protecting children from sexual predators in our schools.”
Moms for Liberty is a growing national organization dedicated to educating and empowering parents to defend their parental rights at all levels of government, including schools. MFL has more than 300,000 members in 48 states and has placed 430 members in school board seats and 9 in state legislatures. Wisconsin has 22 county chapters of MFL and is actively seeking support for chapters in Outagamie and Brown County.
Laura reviewed the worsening issue of young students being exposed to pornography/sexual content on their cell phones and even in school libraries: the average age of first exposure, she said, is 12 years old. Even worse is the increasing incidence of sextortion, where graphic pictures of students are spread on social media, leading to anxiety/depression and even suicide. The FBI reported 13,000 cases of sextortion involving teenagers from 2021 to 2023, leading to 14 suicides.
Sexual misconduct by school teachers and staff toward students is a documented but underreported issue. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction investigated over 200 cases of sexual misconduct from 2018 to 2023 but did not fully report this to the public. In many cases, the student’s parents were not told, and the instigator resigned but did not lose his or her license, thus being able to work in a different school district. Specific problems in the school districts of Waupaca, Oconto Falls, New London, and New Richmond were discussed.
Any concerned citizen wishing to assist MFL can do so by going to the websites for Moms for Liberty or Fox Valley Initiative to sign up or for donations.
About Fox Valley Initiative
FVI has received 501c4 status and is changing its name to Fox Valley Conservatives (FVC). The mission of FVC is to inform and activate the voting public.
The next monthly public forum of FVC will be on August 3, 2026, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Freedom Project Academy in Appleton, with the subject matter being “Competing visions for America.” Our guest speaker Myra (last name withheld for security reasons) will discuss growing up as a Christian in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, where everyday life required navigating cultural limitations and personal risk. After immigrating to and becoming a citizen of the United States, she now speaks boldly about religious liberty and the importance of protecting the freedoms that make America exceptional.
